Cancer Education

CANCER EDUCATION AND SCREENINGS are funded by a grant from the Cancer Challenge at Bella Vista. Staff members are available to teach self-examination techniques, set up and conduct screenings, and provide information. A cancer information lending library is available.

Family Education

  PREPARED CHILDBIRTH CLASSES offer information to expectant parents on what will happen during labor and delivery, and care of the mother and newborn. Classes are offered in a variety of schedules and formats. Refresher childbirth and C-section classes are also available.
  
  BOOT CAMP FOR NEW DADS is a fathers-only class to help expectant dads understand their new life and role as part of their new "family".
  
  PREPARED CHILDBIRTH CLASSES IN SPANISH are taught in Spanish. This class combines labor, delivery, breastfeeding and baby care.
  
  BREASTFEEDING CLASSES prepare expectant parents to be successful at breastfeeding. Anatomy and physiology, advantages of breast over bottle, and how-to techniques are included.
  
  SIBLING CLASSES help children ages 2 - 10 prepare for a new baby. The class allows children to express their feelings about the new baby and stresses the role of the sibling.
  
  BABY ABCs is a basic infant care class covering how to swaddle, diaper, hold, bathe and care for an infant. Normal newborn appearance and when to call the doctor are covered.

Health Care Education

  HEART SAVER, PEDIATRIC CPR, HEALTH CARE PROVIDER AND CPR INSTRUCTOR CLASSES are available to prepare individuals to handle a cardiopulmonary arrest situation. Participants learn how to recognize a cardiac arrest and how to perform CPR until help arrives.
 
  SAFE SITTER is an internationally known program that prepares young adolescents to be safe caregivers. Students complete a 16 module course with emphasis on practical and life saving skills.
 
  HEALTH EDUCATION CLASSES are available on many topics and can be targeted to specific audiences.

Working On Wellness

Offers a wide range of exercise options for people seeking to modify their behavior and get in shape. A fitness assessment and exercise plan allows individuals to set goals and monitor progress.
 

Arthritis Aquatics - T-W-F          9:00-9:50am                    $25 per month
A gentle, warm water exercise class developed by the Arthritis Foundation for people with arthritis to soothe inflamed joints and maintain mobility.

 
  Fibro Fit - T-W-F          10:00-10:50am                $25 per month
A gentle, warm water exercise class for people with muscular conditions such as fibromyalgia.
 
 

Aqua Action - T-W-F          11:00-11:50am                $25 per month
A gentle, warm water exercise class in shallow water.

 
 

Water Movement - T-W-F  9-9:50am,  10-10:50am or 11-11:50am                 - $25 per month
A deep water exercise class that focuses on cardiovascular health, muscular strength, and flexibility.

 

 
  Deep Water- T-W-Th        5:30-6:20pm                             $25 per month
An intense cardiovascular exercise class focusing on endurance, strength training, and flexibility.

 

LAND AEROBICS-

  Stretch & Flex - T-Th            9:00-9:45am                    FREE
A low-intensity exercise class that concentrates on increasing flexibility, balance, and muscular strength.

 

 
 

Balanced Bodies- F                  9:00-9:45am          FREE        
***This class meets in room 9 of the Harvey Jones Health EducationBuilding, 610 E. Emma***
   
Exercises to improve your strength, flexibility, and balance. Resistance bands are used during the class and chairs help to assist with balancing and stretching.
