Community Health and Wellness offers the following programs:

 

Save-A-Life- A Free Cancer Screening Program

CANCER EDUCATION AND SCREENINGS are funded by a grant from the Cancer Challenge of Bella Vista and is a service of Community Health & Wellness on the Jones Center campus. Free Cancer screenings are provided for those who qualify.
To qualify, a person must have a financial need. These include:
Lack of health insurance, or
An insurance deductible so high that it prevents individuals from utilizing it for things such as cancer screening.

If you or someone you know are in need of cancer screening, please contact our grant coordinator at (479)756-8090, ext. 525 to see if you qualify. (Spanish line: (479)756-8090, ext. 517)

Cancer screening is provided for the following cancers:

  • Skin Cancer: a visual inspection of a suscpicious spot & a biopsy, if necessary.
    Prostate Cancer: a digital rectal exam and a PSA blood test.
  • Breast Cancer: a clinical breast exam, mammogram, breast ultrasound and/or breast MRI, if necessary.
  • Cervical Cancer: a Pap smear, including a wellness exam and/or pelvic ultrasound, if necessary.
  • Colorectal Cancer: a colorectal cancer screening kit.

Smoking Cessation

Tired of being chained by your tobacco habit? Attend a free, four-session class to prepare yourself to Be Tobacco Free! Classes begin every month.

Safe Sitter International Training

Adolescents ages 11 - 13 can take a two-day course to learn how to be a better babysitter. Course covers safety concepts, dealing with behavior problems, understanding why small children behave a certain way, and how to have fun! There is a fee for the Safe Sitter supplies.

ChildBirth Education

  • Prepared childbirth classes help you understand what goes on during the last trimester of pregnancy and what to expect during labor and delivery. Classes are offered in one all-day session or in a four-evening format. Classes are offered in English and Spanish.
  • Breastfeeding class helps you prepare for a successful breastfeeding experience.
  • Baby ABCs is a basic infant care class covering bathing, diapering, swaddling and caring for a your newborn.
  • Sibling class helps children ages 2 - 10 prepare for their new role as a big sister or big brother.
  • Boot Camp for New Dads is a "Men Only" class for expectant fathers. Experienced dads act as coaches for the rookies.
  • Teen Parenting class helps pregnant teens and teens with young children develop needed parenting skills.
  • One time fee of $40 covers all childbirth education courses.

CPR - Basic Life Support Education

  • All courses are taught according to the latest American Heart Association standards. Certification courses are $30 per person. Passing the course results in a two-year certification card.
  • CPR for Family and Friends is a non-certification class for people who want to learn rescue breathing, chest compressions and how to help someone who is choking. The class is free.
  • HeartSaver CPR is an 4-6-hour certification course covering one-person CPR and relief of choking techniques for adult, infants and children.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers is an 4-6-hour certification course for medical professionals. It includes two-person CPR and AED use.
  • HeartSaver First Aid is an 8-hour certification course that combines one-person CPR, AED use and basic first aid concepts.
  • Basic Life Support Instructor course is available. Call for information on cost and preparation.

Exercise and Wellness Classes are available to help you have a healthier lifestyle

  • Stretch and Flex is an hour long stretching and toning class that is available two mornings each week. It's lots of fun and is free.
  • Arthritis Aquatics is a warm water exercise class to help keep joints mobile and muscles working. It is taught by an Arthritis Foundation certified instructor. Class meets three times a week. There is a fee to attend.
  • Fibro Fit is a water exercise class for people with fibromyalgia and other muscle disorders. It meets three times a week and there is a fee to attend.
  • Water Movement and Deep Water Aerobics are water exercise classes that meet three times a week to help you loose weight and get into better shape. There is a fee.
  • “Jones Trekkers” is an informal walking club. Come walk and log your mileage to JTL terminals in distant cities.
  • Balanced Body exercise, a free chair exercise class to improve strength and flexibility.
