between the individuals and families who have lived
in our region for many years and those who have immigrated
to Northwest Arkansas.
- Improve the internal and external marketing of the
Center to reflect the diverse populations living in
Northwest Arkansas.
- Assist in the referral of immigrants living in Northwest
Arkansas to appropriate social service providers.
- Work with immigrant parents to help them become
more involved in their children’s academic performance
through greater participation in school functions.
We invite you to join us. There will be discussion
groups on a variety of themes, workshops, cultural events,
informational programs, lectures, classes, volunteer
opportunities, and more, all designed to promote learning

Parents on Board |
| |
The goals of this program are to motivate parents
to become more actively involved in their children’s
learning; impress upon parents the important benefits
of being involved in their children’s learning;
provide parents with several ways to reinforce their
children’s learning at home and to give parents
specific ways to be involved in their children’s
school.
The results of more than 100 studies conducted
over the past 20 years show very clearly that
the involvement of parents in their children’s
education is the best predictor of students’
academic success.
Parents on Board is designed for small groups
to allow sufficient group interaction. It can
be resented as three on-hour sessions or as on
three-hour session. The workshop uses video vignettes,
discussion, and the parent guide Helping Your
Child Succeed at School. The parents that participate
receive a copy of this book.
The three sessions are as follows:
- Preparing Your Child to Succeed
Understand and develop your child’s ability
to learn
Learn the importance of structure in children’s
lives
Create a home environment that encourages learning
Develop successful homework habits
Build a strong partnership with teachers
- Encouraging Positive Behavior

home and at school
